Should I take my triptan before or after I workout? I have daily migranes soo it always hurts but hurts a little more after working out

Should I take my triptan before or after I workout? I have daily migranes soo it always hurts but hurts a little more after working out

Triptans: Triptan can be used prophylactically but would advise you to use it as soon as the headache comes on. If you have headaches all the time, its difficult to know when to treat. You need to see a headache specialist who will put you on preventive medications, which can decrease daily headaches. ...Read more

All of you dr's who won't sedate due to it being trivial, why is that, when it clearly states in the ada that reasonable accommodations must be met?

All of you dr's who won't sedate due to it being trivial, why is that, when it clearly states in the ada that reasonable accommodations must be met?

What's the question?: Sounds more like a bio-ethics question than an issue with ada accommodation. Doctors must first do no harm and that fact alone supersedes any issues of ada accommodation. Doctors become doctors to help people, especially dose with disabled needs. Sometimes patient's do not see it that way and it takes more than one doctor or specialty to work hand-in-hand to find the best solution. ...Read more

Is hydrocodone a triptan?

No, a narcotic: Hydrocodone is a narcotic, not a triptan. Triptans are actually quite effective for migraines, while hydrocodone is much more prone to causing a medication overuse headache. ...Read more

What's a trivial pericardial effusion?

No concern: We all have small amounts of fluid in the pericardial sac around the heart. Think of motor oil for valves in engine which lubricates surfaces ti reduce friction. If we can see this on an echocardiogram we will frequently say trivial effusion. ...Read more

Trivial amount of fluid around heart -causes?

Trivial amount of fluid around heart -causes?

Probably normal: The heart lies with in the pericaridal sac. This is bag formed by a fairly strong membranous tissue. There is always a small amount of fluid in the pericardium probably for lubrication. It's called pericarial fluid. This is normal. Sometimes the fluid level can increase this is called a pericaridal effusion. This can be caused by infection, heart failure, kidney disease, and trauma. ...Read more

Which oral triptan would be your first choice for a patient with typical migraines?

Which oral triptan would be your first choice for a patient with typical migraines?

Varies: Many choices, but here is how I approach it. If speed is critical, the fastest control comes from injectable imitrex, which I rarely use. But the nasal spray, zomig 5mg works within 15 min in most people. If rebound is issue, Frova or treximet seem best. If other triptans fail, found Relpax (eletriptan) helpful. In summary, my favourites in order: relpax, (eletriptan) frova, zomig ns. ...Read more

Can I take triptans with alcohol? And Can I take triptans for migrai. Nes as a result of hangover?

Can I take triptans with alcohol? And Can I take triptans for migrai. Nes as a result of hangover?

No alcohol: Alcohol is a poison and it never did anybody any good, ever. So stay away from it. It is doubly bad to mix alcohol and medications.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

I have a redundant anterior mitral leaflet without prolapse and also have trivial regurgitation, is this dangerous?

I have a redundant anterior mitral leaflet without prolapse and also have trivial regurgitation, is this dangerous?

Back to Valve Basics: What do the heart valves do? They allow blood flow forward (most important) & (hopefully) prevent any reverse flow. Without an inlet & outlet valve, each ventricle of our heart would not pump anything. Prolapse commonly a "fad diagnosis" of no significance. However leak (regurgitation), because it increases heart ventricle workload another matter. If small, heart strong & does not worsen, minor. ...Read more

Can triptans cause rebound headaches? I have been having daily unilateral headaches for over a week. Can I take triptans when pain unbearable?

Can triptans cause rebound headaches? I have been having daily unilateral headaches for over a week. Can I take triptans when pain unbearable?

Triptans & others: As a rule of thumb...no abortive medication for migraine headaches (such as triptans) should be taken more than twice in 24 hrs. (meaning 2 doses) or more than 4 times in 7 days (4 doses). And yes, they can and do cause rebound headaches. Keeping track of your headaches & medication doses as you decrease their use may show you how this phenomenon works. See a headache specialist for more details. ...Read more

Latest stress echo. All normal except ANTERIOR WALL FAILS TO AUGMENT OVERALL ATTENUATED CONTRACTILE RESPONSE. EF of 55. Trivial MR and TR- Bad?

C/w anterior heart: Attack. No stress tests work well because atherosclerosis does not narrow arteries; arteries enlarge, study: goo. Gl/aRhOU2 Narrowings are a result of plaque ruptures & blood clots/thrombus within the lumen; severe narrowing is the only thing all stress tests are capable of detecting. My first time taking a triptan it made my head feel better and about two months later which is now I took one and it made my head hurt why is that?

Many possibilities: Triptans are not 100% effective for every headache. One issue for the second headache: did you take the triptan at the onset of head pain? If you waited, the triptan will not work as well, and sometimes the "side effect" seen is actually worsening of the headache. If it worked the first time, it will likely work more times than it won't. ...Read more

Mom has a tendency to worry about trivial & legitimate health issues alike. Over time I'm worried her doctors won't take her real problems seriously?

Tough situation: Hi. We all have hypochondriacal patients, and it's very challenging. We learn to let go of most of what they tell us. Nevertheless, all humans get old, get sick, and die, so even the hypochondriacs get truly sick sooner or later. They waste a lot of physician time and limited healthcare resources in the meantime. There's no easy answer. Good luck to her! ...Read more

23 yearold male I trian for mma I strined a lower abb muscle a week ago. It has been a week and it is goning awayis there anytips on how toheal faster?

Physical Therapy: Working with a number of mma fighters, I see a lot of lower ab and groin strains. Getting it to heal, requires time, but physical therapy, massage, stretching, stim, us, ice/heat, etc can help it heal. The bigger issue is prevention. Regular massage/stretching/conditioning, strengthening all of the core muscles (not just abs), balancing the pelvic muscles, glut/hamstring strength, etc. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with mld MVP and trivial MR 1 year ago. Everything else normal. I go running daily for 40 mins and I am comfortable Should I continue?

Yes: Studies show certain cardiac arrhythmias occur more frequently in those with MVP and it is extremely common. Nobody can give you a definite answer but looks like you have back issues so strive to find a middle ground and meet your health goals without over stressing your heart. Try cycling too. Speak with a cardiology for expert consult. Good luck. Http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/m/pubmed/7105369/ ...Read more
