Sounds appropriate: Typically, triamcinolone cream is safe to use on all parts of the body, other than the face, under the arms and the genital region. You may use it up to twice daily, and I would not use more than 2 weeks continuously without discussing with your doctor. ...Read more

Safe, not useful: It's safe, but unlikely to be useful. There is theoretical reason to think that topical (applied to the skin) menthol might help, but I know of no clinical studies of that use of menthol. ...Read more

Relax: Neither of these is toxic and both come in forms we give a baby by mouth. I would take the opportunity to get the poison control centers number and keep it by the phone. I would also scan the house for other ways baby can get into materials that could be poisonous or dangerous. Possibly safe but...: If you need to cover the entire body with this cream, you may as well be put on oral prednisone. You should consult a dermatologist however to find out what is causing the problem since this may cause systemic effects, just like systemic cortisone, when used for long.

Intertrigo: The peri-rectal area is a common area for a rash known as intertrigo. This starts off as an irritation and then secondarily becomes colonized by yeast usually. Avoid using wet wipes to wipe the area. It can be treated with a combination of topical steroid and topical anti-yeast creams and often takes a few weeks to resolve.
