How does nasal intubation work exactly?

How does nasal intubation work exactly?

Tube in nose: The endotracheal tube is put in through the nose instead of through the mouth. This is done in cases where the surgery being performed would be hindered by having a tube in the mouth. The anesthesiologist decongests the nose vigorously and uses a smaller tube to avoid trauma and bleeding.

Are nasal sprays safe?

Are nasal sprays safe?

Yes.: Yes, however the otc nasal decongestants can cause problems if used continuously. They cause what is termed, "rebound". People get used to the decongestant effects, and have to continue to use them. Prescription nasal sprays are much safer, if used as directed.

Is it possible to do jal neti (nasal irrigation) and sutra neti (string neti) after septoplasty safely?

Nasal irrigation: Many doctors recommend nasal irrigation while the splints are in during the postoperative period. Once the splints are out and your surgeon tells you your septum is healed, you can continue irrigation on your surgeon's advice.

I try to avoid toxic drugs and treatments. What can I try before I go for traditional medical care for nasal trauma?

No drugs needed: Hi, there is no "traditional medical care" for nasal trauma. You either broke the nose badly enough to require surgery at which time you will get drugs for anesthesia purposes or you didn't break anything and only ice packs and reduction in strenuous activity would be indicated.

Ent found deviated septum, nasal obstruction, damage from gerd. Needs to do endoscopic septoplasty. Scared. Risks? Any life threatening risks?

Not big risk: Septoplasty is correction of the deviated or crooked septum. The basic risks include bleeding, infection, not getting a satisfactory correction of deviation, a septal perforation (hole), changes in smell/ taste temporarily. No life threatening risks from surgery. Most ENT doctors do 100's of these a year. Quite common and routine procedure.

I've had nasal sounding voice my whole life, is there any way to reduce the nasal sounds while speaking?

I've had nasal sounding voice my whole life, is there any way to reduce the nasal sounds while speaking?

Seek a referral: With the speech pathologist via your primary care physician to get objective measurements of your voice production. If not severe and they would recommend and do speech therapy measures. If severe enough it could be concluded that see an ear nose and throat doctor would need to see you to consider a corrective measure. Take care

Night-time nasal dry crusting. I wear a CPAP. How can I reduce this? Am 1 1/2 weeks post-septoplasty. This was normal for me pre-surgery.

You might: Consider trying using an emollient with a oil base, like vaseline on the inside of your nose, or review with your ENT about possible use of an antibiotic ointment if there is a suggestion of vestibulitis. You should also consider regular saline nasal irrigation - as long as it's OK by your ENT post-surgically. And review with your ENT about humidifcation of your not only your home but CPAP.
