Here are some. ..: Pearly penile papillose (PPP) is considered "normal" variation of the appearance of glans penis and Fordyce's spots are the ectopic sebaceous glands - not related with hair follicles; both are harmless and require no Rx or active attention. Definitely, Tretinoin has no value for and should not be used for either one. Best wish. .. ...Read more

Peeling flaking and redness from retin a (tretinoin) gel. Is there something I can use after that won't clog pores and help results?
Doctor can recheck: If getting too much redness and peeling from facial retinoid use, such as Retin-A gel, one's doctor can help. Some patients try lengthening the Retin-A interval, for example, from twice a day to once a day, or from once a night to every-other-night. Some patients benefit from using over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% cream twice a day for 3-5 days, while lengthening the Retin-A dosing interval. ...Read more

I am using tretinoin on my face. Can it be a cause for hairfall that I am experiencing. I use about a pea sized tretinoin gel daily before sleeping.
Not likely: Haven't heard of tretinoin (used for acne) causing hair loss or baldness. Hair loss is more likely familial (any other people in the family have hair loss at the particular age?) or may be due to hormonal causes. A primary care doctor can evaluate, if the hair loss seems unusual. ...Read more
I use topical tretinoin gel with minoxidil for hair growth. But there are accounts on the net claiming it causes hairloss. Please explain the truth.
A comparative study published in the american journal of dermatology in 2007 showed that:
the efficacy and safety of combined 5% Minoxidil and 0.01% tretinoin once-daily therapy appear to be equivalent to those of conventional 5% Minoxidil twice-daily therapy for the treatment of androgenic alopecia.
In other words, tretinoin does not appear to improve results of Minoxidil alone. ...Read more

Gel more potent: Prices are arbitrary, not based on actual cost of production, but determined but what the market will bear. Shop around. When a patient of mine in not covered by insurance for this I can sometimes find it for $25 for 100 Grams. Look for OTC ADAPALENE, generic for Differin, which will soon be sold OTC. It is better than tretinoin. Price not yet known but likely to be reasonable. ...Read more

My dermatologist prescribed clindamycin gel and tretinoin gel (two separate tubes) but didn't give application instructions. Which goes on first?
My recs: Clinda gel should be twice a day and at night use a pea sized amount of the retinoid first then the clinda. Less is more with a retinoid. More is more irritating, not more effective. You also must be using a benzoyl peroxide wash or the bacteria will become resistant to the clinda. So, wash twice daily with bpo, clinda 2x/day, and retinoid nightly as 1st step. Cerave pm moist last at night. ...Read more

Common problem: It is common for skin to get dry and irritated when beginning tretinoin. This usually improves on its own over time as your skin gets accustomed to it. Both are Vitamin A's:
One is a cream/gel the other one is a pill.

Retin-a or tretinoin (generic name) is a cream/gel is applied to the face and it works from the outside in.
