Itchy rashes under armpit, what are possible causes and OTC treatments? I shower daily, don't shave.

Itchy rashes under armpit, what are possible causes and OTC treatments? I shower daily, don't shave.

Dermatitis vs fungal: An 'itchy' rash in the axilla (arm pit) may be a 'contact dermatitis' or a yeast/fungal infection. An otc treatment for dermatitis is Cortaid (hydrocortisone 1%) and the treatment for fungal infection is otc 'anti-fungal' e.g. Lotrimin. Dermatitis may be caused by exposure to chemicals/fragrances in deodorant/anti-perspirants so a hypo-allergenic subsitute may be needed. Get seen if no better. ...Read more

Skin rashes that are itch and have hive? What treatment is needed?

Skin rashes that are itch and have hive? What treatment is needed?

Antihistamines: Standard treatment for hives are antihistamines. Excellent ones are available over-the-counter. Most people like Benadryl - but that's the result of brand recognition. Claritin (loratidine) and Allegra (fexofenadine) work as well & as fast without causing drowsiness. They also last for about 24 hours. Benadryl wears off in 3-4 hours. Look for generics. See your np, pa, or hcp if this doesn't work. ...Read more

What is the treatment for rashes in the neck area?

Vaseline: Babies have "bull necks", and wetness and formula love to get into the creases and cause irritation. Yeast may even move in, making more fun for everyone. A good antifungal like lotrimin kills the yeast, an anti inflammatory such as Hydrocortisone helps the raw irritated skin, and a barrier cream such as vaseline protects the skin from future irritation and allows it to heal. ...Read more
