Treatments For Painful Lump On Achilles Tendon
Depends on symptoms: Many people have calcaneal spurs that are asymptomatic. Others have a lot of pain. Generally it is not the spur that is the problem, but inflammation from pull of the ligaments/tendons in the area. Heel spurs generally are on bottom of heel and sometimes back of heel. Surgery is a last resort for heel spurs. See a podiatrist and discuss options if you are having pain in area of the spur(s). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Heel spur on back of foot &below back of foot. Achilles tendinitis visible bump on the side opposite of the ankle. Been years. Pains unbearable. Help?
Sick Achilles.: Your comments sound like the findings of a previous x-ray exam. I'm not sure what is meant by "bump on the opposite side of the ankle". If it is in the Achilles tendon, then extreme pain, could make sense. It sounds as though there is something amiss with your Achilles tendon. It would make sense to immobilize the ankle, and begin non-weight bearing until tendon imaging studies can be performed ...Read more

Is ultrasound ever used on the bottom of the heel to check for injuries, or problematic veins and arteries? Heel pain, orthotics don't help. No spur.
Yes: ultrasound can assess the plantar fascia for abnormalities like plantar fasciitis and fibromatosis. It can also assess for nerve problems that can cause heel pain. However, you have to find someone who is experienced in using ultrasound for that purpose and this is not always easy. Recommend that whoever you see is registered for musculoskeletal ultrasound. They should have an RMSK certificate. ...Read more

As the body compensates, you can expect that new problems such as muscle tightness and weight shifting will develop. Treating these new symptoms can be even more challenging than treating the original ones. A Healthtap specialist can help. ...Read more
