Can you translate my diagnosis and possible treatment options? I sprained my ankle 6 weeks ago and i just got an MRI done and here are the results (i need them translated into english): severe marrow edema/contusions in the medial aspect of talus, medial

Needless : Needless to say, now that you have your MRI report, your questions are really best answered by your doctor. So that you are properly armed with information, in general terms, you have several places where the bone has been injured, but not fractured around your ankle and foot. More significantly, you have a torn ligament on the outside (lateral) part of your ankle. The anterior talo-fibular ligament is the most frequently injured ligament in an ankle injury. According to the mri, this is a full thickness tear, or rather a complete tear, not just a few fibers. You also have some partial tears of other ligaments. So, in short, you have a pretty significant soft tissue injury to your ankle. No fractures, however. Depending on your age and level of activity, there is a good chance you'll require surgery to repair at least one of those torn ligaments. And, since ligaments receive less blood than bone, they take longer to heal, so you'll probably be in a cast, off-weight bearing, for a couple of months, and also have a course of physical therapy. Hope this helps. Good luck! ...Read more

Venous stasis: Other options to treat swelling besides "the usual" includes scds - sequential compression device. It's basically a machine you plug into the wall that is attached to a big bag. You put your legs into the bags and it squeezes them to reduce the swelling. There are a few contraindications, but i would speak to your pcp about getting insurance approval for these. They can be quite expensive. ...Read more
