Can sertraline be used as a long term treatment for social anxiety disorder?

Yes: If it's working, sure, keep taking it. However, there are nonmedical methods that help too, & may eventually allow you to cope without meds. Besides, therapy plus meds works better than meds alone in almost all cases, with psychiatric problems. Consider discussing with Psychiatrist or psychologist on Healthtap Concierge, where virtual consults can be done with a doc to give ongoing treatment.

Is social anxiety disorder consider serious?

You may be the judge: If your life is being impacted, then it is a problem and how much may tell you how serious a problem it is. No one else can really experience the distress you feel or the limitations you impose on yourself to avoid that distress.
