I have thick patchy layers of dandruff stuck to my scalp which itches I think is either cradle cap or seborrheic derm how can I permanently cure (19yr?

Have it looked at

You may be dealing with a scalp fungus that may require a prescribed oral anti fungal agent.Creams don't penetrate the scalp deep enough to get at the hair root, so it can persist. If not, a good scalp care routine can be set up.

What can I use for cradle cap in babies scalp?

Depends

Cradle_cap
Much of cradle cap id due to retained skin flakes that are not susceptible to the mild ingredients in "tear free" baby shampoos. Active washing with a simple dandruff shampoo will often do the trick, as well as avoiding baby oil on the scalp or other treatments.A soft cuticle brush to help scrub in the shampoo helps, but keep it away from the eyes.

How can adult cradle cap be treated?

Is it really??

Cradle_cap
The closest thing to infant cradle cap in adults would actually be a fungal infection of the scalp. Cradle cap in infants is basically old skin cells stuck together unaffected by baby shampoos that don't loosen the flakes.Regular use of medicated dandruff shampoo will help adults solve the flake issue, but if unresponsive you will need to have it looked at by your PCP.

What is cradle cap? Can adults get it, too?

Unlikely

Cradle_cap
Cradle cap is due to the accumulation of dried and dead skin in the scalp of an infant, usually due to family's concern that mild scalp massage might "damage the brain through the baby's soft spot." As adults do not have a soft spot, they are much less likely to have cradle cap, as the fear of brain damage from scalp massage is not present.

What is Cradle Cap?

Oily,scaley skin

Baby
Cradle cap represents warn out skin cells that remain firmly attached to the scalp after they would otherwise fall off. (All of us shed skin all the time) Natural skin oils may act as a glue, and most baby shampoos don't include enzymes to break up the oil.

A common harmless...

..condition in babies. It involves yellowish scales on the scalp, and it often involves a certain type of fungus. If can be very mild and require no treatment (it often bothers the mother more than the baby), or more severe. It goes away eventually by itself, or if it's itchy, it can be treated with diluted over the counter dandruff shampoos. Ask your doctor.

How can I treat Cradle Cap?

Baby oil/olive oil

Baby
I typically recommend baby oil or olive oil on the scalp for cradle cap. After applying, gently loosen the flakes with a soft baby brush, and then wash your baby's hair. There are some over-the-counter cradle cap treatment kits available as well. If persistent, ask your doctor about dandruff shampoo used twice a week.
