Unfortunately,: Unfortunately, with lots of pain and swelling after a fall, it's important to rule out a fracture. This can only be done with an exam and/or x-ray of the injured foot. Your doctor or an urgent care facility will likely be cheaper than going to the emergency room. I would give them a call to ask how much a visit and/or x-ray would cost. If your foot or ankle is broken, then taking care of it sooner rather than have it heal improperly later is the most economical way to go.

Just means fluid is collecting in the tissues. When only 1 foot is swollen, it usually means the cause is local (something going on with in the foot), but if both feet are swollen, it usually means your body is retaining fluid, and the only reason it's showing up in the feet is that gravity thing. Right swollen foot that won't go down causing severe pain up leg up to the knee, for about six months now after cellitius skin infection, not pitting?

Non pitting edema: Many things can cause swelling of the extremities; trauma, infections, problems with veins, problems with the lymphatics system, heart issues, kidney disease to name a few. I would recommend evaluation by your physician. Elevation and compression stockings may be helpful to treat the swollen areas.

I: I agree with the above comment. With continued pain, I would readdress your ankle with your physician and have it re-examined. Some types of fractures may take longer to heal and recovery from those fractures are both patient and injury dependent.

Can a swollen foot/ankle be caused by diabetes? Just one side everyday for 3 years. Not DVT, activity doesn't help.

Can a swollen foot/ankle be caused by diabetes? Just one side everyday for 3 years. Not DVT, activity doesn't help.

Chronic injury: Without more information, it is difficult to make an assessment. This could be a variation in the way your body distributes fat due to a lipoma (focal fat deposit) or it could be due to chronic injury. With a history of diabetes, you may be developing loss of sensation to your foot and hurting it repeatedly. Consult your doctor.

Get ultrasound eval: Swelling in one foot after trauma could be a result of inflammation, which will pass with elevation, but could, also represent a blood clot below the knee, which could be dangerous. A painless ultrasound evaluation will determine if this is the diagnosis. Treatment can then be started to correct the problem.

When I fall asleep my left foot hangs off the bed & I wake up with a swollen foot every day! Both my foot & ankle stay swollen because of how I sleep?

Swollen foot: When your foot hangs over the bed like that blood is pooling in the foot and having a tough time getting out as it should. As you are not wallking during the night the pumping action of the muscles is not there. Do your best to not hang you foot over off the bed. Good luck!

Knee keeps jarring back, knee, ankle & foot very painful, swollen & foot very cold, do have old meniscus & acl injury, recent pain for unknown reason?

Knee keeps jarring back, knee, ankle & foot very painful, swollen & foot very cold, do have old meniscus & acl injury, recent pain for unknown reason?

Get checked: You'll want to get checked and treated right away. Although unlikely given the short description, infected joint needs to be ruled out. Also, the cold extremity is very concerning for vascular compromise. Follow your instinct, but you may consider urgent care today or at least placing a call to your primary care doc or orthopedist. Good luck!
