Different by State: Each state that has med marijuana laws has different conditions for which weed can be prescribed. Interestingly, Colorado, which has both recreational AND med marijuana laws, recently voted AGAINST medical marijuana for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Is there a such thing as medical marijuana? If so which doctor prescribes? What affect does long term marijuana do to the body?
Not in Texas: If you decide this is for you, don't expect any physician in Texas would risk his/her license to prescribe it for you. Move to Colorado or another permissive state and you can find out what their restrictions are. ...Read more
I have vulvodynia and someone suggested medical marijuana because I'm taking gabapentin and it's not helping. Would that be a better option?
Marijuana: I see that you're in georgia, where marijuana is not legal. "medical" marijuana would be problematic for you in that case. If your current medications are not helping your vulvodynia, you need to tell your doctor and work towards something that provides relief. Please discuss your ideas with your physician so that you can have a full conversation about them. ...Read more

Know the product: Medical marijuana is required to list THC concentrations, etc. I suspect a product with low THC would be much more helpful in your situation as it would be more likely to have a calming rather than energizing effect (higher THC often relates to the 'high' or 'stoned' effect recreational marijuana users seek but is also related to side effects of paranoia, anxiety, stimulating autonomic system. ...Read more
Hello, I just wanted to know if I qualify for medical marijuana because I have been diagnosed with Thoracic Spondylosis and I am only 30 years old.
Local issue: In most of the country this is still illegal and a doc could lose their license by providing you access to it. However, there are some states that ignore the federal law & have liberal access programs. The rules are made within each area, so you must look into this locally. For some, they could get access with a stubbed toe. ...Read more

Should be OK but...:
Thank-you for your service to our country (i'm guessing you're not in afghanistan on vacation).
Your lungs should be as good as new over time but to err on the side of caution I advise waiting at least a year before smoking to give your lungs time to heal. You can use it orally or topically before then. Marijuana can be very helpful for back pain ; spasm. High cbd strains are less intoxicating. ...Read more

Mixed bag: I agree with dr. Baker, but see in my chronic illness counseling practice lots of pot use, because some GI docs are routinely recommending it to young patients. This is a pain reliever right now; not a cure. Heavy pot use stops people from working on other issues (family, work) that may be fueling the inflammation, not good. Long term use also presupposes that chronic pain (inflammation) is ok. ...Read more
