Dehydration dangers: For a toddler like this, maintaining hydration is absolutely key. If there's been this much vomiting and now diarrhea- I would go to the hospital at once to make sure your child is hydrated. You can tell by number of wet diapers, tear production etc - but best to have a doctor look at this. You don't want to take a chance with such a young, precious life. ...Read more

Is it still viral gastroenteritis if diarrhea began BEFORE vomiting? Diarrhea for 3 hrs, then vomiting too, now just watery diarrhea. 27/F. Scared.

Yes, can be viral: The order of diarrhea and vomiting doesn't predict whether what you have is viral since can present both ways. Should you have bloody diarrhea or fever over 102 F then would go to your doctor. More than likely you have viral gastroenteritis and will run its course over 3 to 5 days. Can try some peptobismol ...Read more

Still symptomatic?: I am not clear if your symptoms have resolved or not. They may consider doing lab tests, stool cultures, or referring you to GI specialist. Take Care! ...Read more
