Priapism would be a very rare but serious side effect. See below. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Many: Zolpidem or Ambien (zolpidem) is a short acting sleeping med which often doesn't make someone tired. So you need to go to bed right after taking. People have fallen going for a walk waiting for it to take effect. Sleep walking, eating at night and amnesia is more common than realized. If you don't go to bed, after an hour or so it won't work. I see tolerance and insomnia on stopping which can last days. ...Read more

What are the side effects of taking Zoloft (sertraline) and trazodone together at once? 150 mg for Zoloft (sertraline) and 50 mg for trazodone.
Not many: Zoloft (sertraline) and trazodone are often prescribed together. Some people find that zoloft (sertraline) can interfere with sleep and trazodone often provides the necessary sleep relief. Make sure to take trazodone at bedtime, and i would recommend taking zoloft (sertraline) in the morning. Zoloft (sertraline) and trazodone each have side effects, but their combination does not tend to cause other effects separate from those side effects. ...Read more
Depends . . .: Serious side effects (se’s) of trazodone are priapism, allergic reactions, problems breathing, thinking changes & stiff muscles. Sedation results from ?1 & 5-ht2 antagonism. Because trazodone is rarely used alone to treat bipolar (BP) (it can induce mania), i'm assuming you are taking other BP meds w/ it. If so, it is hard to discuss other possible se’s w/o knowing the other meds. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Taking trazodone with prazosin my doctor recently diagnosed me with combat related ptsd which have been causing nightmares. While waiting to see a psychologist she prescribed low dose prazosin and low dose trazodone for the time being. I was researching b
Several : Several studies and case reports suggest that prazosin can benefit individuals with ptsd in reducing sleep disturbances and nightmares. Daytime prazosin has been reported to reduce distress related to trauma cues. However, as you correctly pointed out, taking trazodone and prozosin together could cause undesirable side effects. Why? Both drugs act on so-called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors causing their blockade. This often results in hypotension or drop in blood pressure, especially when the person rapidly changes his or her body posture. This could result in dizziness and sudden increase in the heart rate. Both drugs could also cause excessive sedation. If you already taking medications for high blood pressure, prazosin and trazodone may potentiate their action, causing undesirably low blood pressure. However, the final decision in recommending both prazosin and trazodone rests with your physician who examined you and knows your medical history. Hope this information helps but please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have further questions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
