REST AND HEAT: if you just did it ice will work better to minimize the damage in the muscle. after that, rest and heat is the key to overcome the spasm in the muscle that causing the pain. you can do some stretching exercise to the muscle as well. have some body apply icy hot on the area as well. take aleve, or naprosen, it works better than ibuprofen on muscle. good luck ...Read more

The pull alone causes tightness, and the pull on the ribs can even change the position of the diaphragm for breathing. Yes: It can. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant but not a good pain reliever. You should rest, apply heat, get a message, have physical therapy, consider Yoga, and OTC analgesics may be helpful. Depends: It depends on the cause of the trapezius pain. If the pain is being caused by poor posture, the therapist will work on that. If it is a muscle strain, often, heat, stretching, some times electrical stimuiation and strengthening will help.
