Hello docs. I was wondering can working out your chest help alleviate pain of a strained trapezius muscle?
Can the trapezius muscle make you have chest pain, arm pain? My doctor and he said it's strained. I have flexeril to help it? What else can I do.
Yes: It can. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant but not a good pain reliever. You should rest, apply heat, get a message, have physical therapy, consider Yoga, and OTC analgesics may be helpful. You list Advil. If that doesn't help, try Naproxen 2 tabs twice day with food. (caution: can cause stomach upset). Time is your best ally. ...Read more
During exercise, I might have caused a mild muscle strain or rupture in the upper back area. Probably trapezius or rhomboideus muscle. What to do?
REST AND HEAT: if you just did it ice will work better to minimize the damage in the muscle. after that, rest and heat is the key to overcome the spasm in the muscle that causing the pain. you can do some stretching exercise to the muscle as well. have some body apply icy hot on the area as well. take aleve, or naprosen, it works better than ibuprofen on muscle. good luck ...Read more

The pull alone causes tightness, and the pull on the ribs can even change the position of the diaphragm for breathing.
