Yes: If you have an underlying painful neck condition, i.E degenerative disc disease/pinched nerve/disc bulge; performing aggressive trapezius strengthening exercises can aggravate it. Try and do strengthening exercises with out weights. Consider working with a knowledgable physical therapist to make sure you are doing the appropriate exercises. Diagnosis : It really all comes down to the specific diagnosis. Long term narcotics would not be a good idea. Most common cause is an undeyinh structural problem in the spine such as a "pinched nerve" or a symptomatic facet joint. Other possibility us cervical dystonia. Shoulder pain. Chest CT clear. Can move shoulder fine. Dr says knots on my trapezius muscle are causing pain in shoulder, elbow, wrist. Knots do this?
See physiatrist: Knots in the trapezius can cause those symptoms- as can other knots in the scapula thoracic region (in particular, infraspinatis, teres, levator scapula, and/or scalenes). See physiatrist to treat (and rule out a spinal cause). Can the trapezius muscle make you have chest pain, arm pain? My doctor and he said it's strained. I have flexeril to help it? What else can I do.
Yes: It can. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant but not a good pain reliever. You should rest, apply heat, get a message, have physical therapy, consider Yoga, and OTC analgesics may be helpful. You list Advil. If that doesn't help, try Naproxen 2 tabs twice day with food. (caution: can cause stomach upset). Time is your best ally. ...Read more
