Tram Flap (Overview)

Transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap is often utilized to reconstruct one or two breasts while also reducing the size of the patient's redundant abdominal tissue. The skin is cut with a horizontally oriented ellipse and remains attached to the lower end of the rectus abdominis muscle which is flipped up to carry blood supply to the skin which is used to reconstruct the breast.

Mastectomies: Typically immediate breast reconstruction is performed with you own tissue, implants or a combination of the two. Given your age i would examine you and explain your options for using your own tissue such as your abdomen. I perform diep flap surgery which a tecnique that preserves the muscle and nerves but allows the use of the lower abdominal tissue. I do this procedure in about 5.5 to 6.5 total. ...Read more

TRAM: A tram flap performed for a one sided breast reconstruction is an appropriate procedure and not controversial. Patients with or existing back problems should be evaluated for the diep flap which sacrifice little to no muscle and typically leaves all motor nerves intact to the rectus. Although it binds to mu receptors, tramadol is not technically classified as an opioid analgesic.
