I am recovering from a diverticulitis attack and also training for a half-marathon. How soon after pain has subsided can I safely run again?
Use your judgement: There is truly no set time. Use your judgement; if you are having abdominal pain while you run you are probably being too agressive. Start slowly, stay well hydrated, make sure you are staying regular. If you run into trouble see your doctor early, don't postpone. There is always another race. ...Read more
What's the best way to run and not injure oneself? I got a big pain in my back and neck the last time I was training for my endurance event.
Good shoes: Running is a physiologic effort that should not produce injuries. Use appropriate and comfortable shoes. Do not overtrain; stop when you are tired; watch where you are going; you should see the ground which should be a correct surface to run. Stretch before running. Also watch for pernicious parasitic predators around you haha. ...Read more

I run and do resistance training 5-6 days a week. Is it important to wear a jockstrap or is it not necessary?
I was 16 weeks into my training fir my first marathon when I broke my wrist, race is in 4 weeks, can I still run it, or will running effect healing?
Run it: Properly casted this should not be a problem. If your arm movement feels off due to the weight of the cast, try equalizing the weight on the other hand by carrying something or wrapping on something of similar weight. Your pace might change slightly, but no big problem. Simply do not fall on it. Should be no risk for healing , but be sure to check with the Orthopaedic MD. Good Luck. Start slow !! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I fractured two ribs three days ago, how dangerous is it to go for a run? I'm training for a marathon but I'm planning to only do half the training.
Can't take a break?: Seriously consider that you can't run a marathon with broken ribs. Take the time to invest in letting your body heal. If you are that addicted to exercise, take a step back and think about your motivations. Are you really exercising excessively due to body image issues? There are variant forms of anorexia/eating disorders involving inability to stop exercising.Consider obsessive compulsive issues. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
48 yrs old. Max heart rate on slow (65 mins) 5 mile run =230. Average HR =182. Training watch says 0% of run is at appropriate rate for my age. OK?
How do you feel?: There is no rule that says it can't go that fast, but it's more than expected. It's possible your monitor is "double counting" the beats, which is not uncommon because it misinterprets the electrical impulse of your heart. Do you have a fast heart rate at rest? Do you have palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, passing out or chest pain? If you have those, see your doc to check rhythm. ...Read more
