Maybe....: Because your tragus was never meant to be pierced! Seriously, it sounds like you might have a bit of an infection going on. You could also be reacting to the metal in the piercing. Keep it clean, I like using peroxide and then dabs of neosporin myself. Get it checked out. I do find that for some people, the "crusties" without infection can persist. ...Read more

The cartilage is much more susceptible to infection because of a poor blood supply. Untreated cartilage infections can lead to significant ear deformities. Definitely not: It's possible you have a localized infection from the procedure that punctured through skin and cartilage. This is the body's reaction to that -it is trying to clear out the germs. The 'foreign body' which is whatever earring or jewelry that you have in there makes it harder for the body to 'clear' the germs, because the earring actually helps protect the bacteria.
