How often should I change my tragus earring to avoid infection?

Mind you that rings in ear going through cartilage can cause keloid type scars even if you are not prone to keloids. If you see that happening, see a plastic surgeon. ...Read more

Tragus 20 days old. Last night backing fell off earring/had trouble putting back on/successfully did. Now I got a small pimple thing next 2 hole. Bad?

Probably not bad: Probably irritation. Possibly acne. Piercing the tragus goes through cartilage, which is more traumatic than piercing the ear lobe. If it becomes significantly worse, you should see a DR in case of infection. Avoid peroxide and alcohol as they are irritating without any benefit. Water (shower) is very good for it. OK to use shampoo, skin cleanser. Avoid bacitracin, neomycin, triple antibiotic as t ...Read more

How badly can the tragus piercing hurt?

Tragus piercing: The tragus is the small cartilage of your outer ear, just in front of the opening of the ear canal. Much like the earlobe, this area is not that sensitive to pain, but it is slightly more sensitive than the ear lobe. The ear canal, on the other hand, is very sensitive to pain. I would caution against piercing this area as it puts the cartilage at risk for infection, called chonditis. ...Read more

What is the pain rating of tragus piercing?

What is the pain rating of tragus piercing?

Tragus: The tragus is the small pointed eminence of the external ear in front of the ear canal. Unlike the ear lobe, it has a core of cartilage. I have seen pain ratings (on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the worst) ranging from 3 to 7. It probably depends greatly on the person and on the method of the professional doing the piercing. I would find someone who had a good experience and use that piercer. ...Read more

I got my tragus pierced about 3 months ago and it still hurts and it still is getting the crusties on it. Why?

Maybe....: Because your tragus was never meant to be pierced! Seriously, it sounds like you might have a bit of an infection going on. You could also be reacting to the metal in the piercing. Keep it clean, I like using peroxide and then dabs of neosporin myself. Get it checked out. I do find that for some people, the "crusties" without infection can persist. ...Read more
