Probably fine: I can't imagine not having a major coughing and choking spasm if a pill had got into your trachea. I would greatly doubt that this was what had happened. Read more

Cough (Definition)

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Trachea: Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible. If he/she cannot find the cause you will be referred to a specialist - either a lung specialist and/or an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. Please let me know what develops. Read more

Communication: Are you feeling your own thyroid gland on either side of your trachea? Have you got an idiopathic goiter that's giving you the tight feeling and cough? Needs to be addressed. I'd urge your physicians, if they're really stumped, to consider an ultrasound and imaging of how things move. Read more

Notice when I pinch my trachea I get a sensation of itchiness & I dry cough. Yr rnd. This suggests pinch is aggravating an irritation already there.

Sounds normal: The tracheal area of the front of the neck is very sensitive, which makes sense since there are a lot of important structures around there. Pressing on that area is supposed to trigger an unpleasant sensation and a cough. I don't think there is anything wrong. Read more

I have a wet cough that has gotten better (tickle going away). Lungs clear on exams. Today I noticed a low noise by my trachea when I inhale deeply.

Can be inflammation: Sometimes, when there is residual mucus in the throat or bronchus, it can narrow the airway passage. Narrowed passage can cause turbulent air flow when breathing in and out causing a noise like a whistle. If it gets worse or breathing is worse, see a doctor. If it gets better, mucus and inflammation are likely improving. Read more

Recurrent flare up of barking cough originating in lower neck/trachea area. Unresolved by pulm dr, allergist, etc. Very harsh and painful. Please help?

Laryngitis: Recurring cough not specifically diagnosed by a pulmonary doctor and an allergist suggests that there could be irritation of larynx occurring recurrently. Gartroesophageal reflux (acid) can cause such a symptom. There could be other causes also. You may consult an ENT doctor. Read more

Chronic intermittent dry cough with (and perhaps due to) itchiness of trachea. Whose area is this - ENT or respirology/pulmonology?

Chronic intermittent dry cough with (and perhaps due to) itchiness of trachea. Whose area is this - ENT or respirology/pulmonology?

Both: I would first start with your primary care doctor. The cough could be a blood pressure pill, asthma, allergies, Whooping Cough, tracheal problems, etc. An ENT can scope your trachea whereas a pulmonologist can do this and look further down the trachea to the bronchial tree as well as perform pulmonary function studies. A chest X-Ray and even a Cat Scan can be ordered by any physician. Read more

After exercise or even breathing in hard, trachea feels dry and hurts. Cough a lot. Is it because I am sick or asthma. Cough for few mins after.?

After exercise or even breathing in hard, trachea feels dry and hurts. Cough a lot. Is it because I am sick or asthma. Cough for few mins after.?

Multiple Causes: It could be nothing besides normal reaction to exercise. It is a good thought about asthma, but see a doctor for questioning and exam. These are not specific symptoms of anything serious, except the asthma idea should be checked. Read more

Asthma symptoms: Sounds like your asthma is flaring up even if you don't have a cough or wheezing symptoms. You need to see your doctor so you can be prescribed an inhaler. You may need to have a spirometry test done to confirm an asthma exacerbation. Read more

Cough and throat pai: Hard to tell based on your description. I would bet not though. You need to have an ENT doctor do a fiberoptic exam to rule that out. It is probably reflux and this can be seen really easily with the flexible scope / good luck and feel better Read more

What causes trachea spasms (which blocks air passage) whenever coughing occurs? Is that an asthma symptom?

What causes trachea spasms (which blocks air passage) whenever coughing occurs? Is that an asthma symptom?

Age dependent: The trachea of younger kids is somewhat rubbery, like a soft silicone or thin walled plastic. It does not spasm, like the soft walls of the gut, but it can and does vibrate enough to produce some odd sounds (the croup noise) common from ~6mo-6yr. In tracheo-malacia, (a transient condition) the walls are much weaker and actually cave in on each other, but soft walls not spasm is the problem. Read more
