Is Trace Protein in Urine alone never a significant finding? Thank you.

Is Trace Protein in Urine alone never a significant finding? Thank you.

Define "significant": Trace proteinuria could be due to any 1 of many DIAGNOSES. Not all causes are bad, but if a doctor ordered a urinalysis test, he/she must have had some REASON. Presumably, that doctor knows your CONDITION best - what illnesses you have / had (if any), & what state you were in during the visit. Important thing is to figure out WHY protein was reported in urine. Infx? Lab error? Kidney Dz? TTYD. GL! ...Read more

Gfr decreased to 40 but only trace protein in urine. Would this still be ckd?

Gfr decreased to 40 but only trace protein in urine. Would this still be ckd?

Need more tests,,,: A trace protein in your urine isn't bad and GFR can be low in certain groups of people and in older people with less body mass and those with low fluid intake. You're also on many meds and have symptoms and signs pointing to an autoimmune issue (raynaud's). This alone might cause ckd but more renal tests (bun, cr) would be needed before making such a diagnosis. Good luck. ...Read more

If a patient has a GFR in low 40's but only trace protein in urine are they still considered to have stage 3 ckd?

If a patient has a GFR in low 40's but only trace protein in urine are they still considered to have stage 3 ckd?

There are some new: Criteria using values other than GFR to diagnose type and severity of kidney damage. But yes, GFR of <50 is criteria of stage iii kidney injury/failure, regardless of presence or absence of proteinuria. The important thing at this stage: aggressively treat and decrease effect of causative factors, as often, the gfr/ kidney failure can be improved. Please talk with your nephrologist (kidney doc). ...Read more
