Torn Labrum What's Recovery Time And Will It Keep Hapening
What is typical recovery time & process after meniscal repair/partial tear. How long til pressure can be applied and walking?
Depends on surgery: If you had a menisectomy -- where they just cleaned out meniscus, then recovery time is 6 weeks or so. A couple of days on crutches and then walking, etc. If you had a meniscal repair, then recovery time is 3 - 4 months. There is a brace I use for the first 6 weeks with restricted motion. I let my patients walk with crutches and brace locked in extension. ...Read more

Knee ligaments: Severe injuries of the knee involving 2 ligaments & meniscus will require a few months to 6-8 months to recover depending unpinned the selected treatment . Non surgical care using a brace , NSAIDs and pt typically results in some recovery within 2-3 months . A few weeks: Ligament injuries heal slower than muscle problems because there is less of a blood supply to the ligament itself. After the acute injury heat applied to the area will improve blood flow and speed healing. Once the initial pain and swelling goes down gentle motion also stimulates healing. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

After MCL surgery, my MCL is healing, after a week if i put weight on it will the MCL tear again or will it only damage it?
1-6 weeks: For meniscus surgeries in an otherwise healthy patient in excellent condition, the arthroscopy does not need too much time to recover from. I have had patients walk out from surgery and never turn back. However, patients are often deconditioned because of the injury. This causes muscle (especially quads) weakness and inhibition that takes longer to recover from. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How difficult is it to do MCL repair when when repairing meniscus? Mcl pain is still extreme 10 weeks in. Chances dr will do both at once?
Not typically: The mcl is a structure with high healing potential on its own. It has multiple parts, all of which seldom need surgical fixation. Many patients have pain in the hamstrings (they sit right next to the mcl) long after the mcl heals and can easily be confused. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Repair vs removal: This procedure is completed arthroscopically. You may have a meniscus repair or a partial menisectomy (removal). The repair is ideal, if possible, for preventing arthritic changes, but requires a longer recovery time. In either case recovery is relatively quick; you may start ambulating as tolerated post-op with a debridement. Post-op rehab will concentrate on motion, & quad strength. ...Read more

12 months: The average time to full recovery is really about 12 months. It takes 12 weeks for the tendon to scar down and realistically another 6-9 months to regain the strength. Most people with small to medium tears are doing well at 6 months but i often caution to avoid overhead weight and excessive lifting for the first year out from surgery. Repair vs debride?: A meniscus repair mandates a slower rehabilittion that allows the necessary biology of healing ot occur else the repair will fail. A meniscal debridement is more likely for most tears an affords a rapid rehabiltation with immediate advancement of motion and weight bearing to full as sson as you can tolerated both. Work (desk) is usally ok after several days to a week. ...Read more
