What is typical recovery time & process after meniscal repair/partial tear. How long til pressure can be applied and walking?

Depends on surgery: If you had a menisectomy -- where they just cleaned out meniscus, then recovery time is 6 weeks or so. A couple of days on crutches and then walking, etc. If you had a meniscal repair, then recovery time is 3 - 4 months. There is a brace I use for the first 6 weeks with restricted motion. I let my patients walk with crutches and brace locked in extension. ...Read more

What is the recovery time on a torn meniscus?

1-6 weeks: For meniscus surgeries in an otherwise healthy patient in excellent condition, the arthroscopy does not need too much time to recover from. I have had patients walk out from surgery and never turn back. However, patients are often deconditioned because of the injury. This causes muscle (especially quads) weakness and inhibition that takes longer to recover from. ...Read more

What is the recovery time after surgery for meniscus tear?

Repair vs removal: This procedure is completed arthroscopically. You may have a meniscus repair or a partial menisectomy (removal). The repair is ideal, if possible, for preventing arthritic changes, but requires a longer recovery time. In either case recovery is relatively quick; you may start ambulating as tolerated post-op with a debridement. Post-op rehab will concentrate on motion, & quad strength. ...Read more
