Could the use of a lotion for hair loss based on polysorbate 80, if it is used for many years, every day, cause cancer and heart problems?

No proof in humans: The only readily available info on the cardiac effects of polysorbate 80 is in a study on dogs. (Experimental results in dogs do not necessarily prove that the same thing will happen in humans) There has been some concern, but no proof, it may affect humans when combined with amiodarone (a heart drug). Small cluster of red bumps on back in 2 places. They are itchy and somewhat painful. Has had them for three days. Folliculitis? Calamine lotion?

Bumps unknown: If the bumps are itchy and painful, they could even represent a herpes outbreak. It's extremely difficult to determine what they are by your description. Calamine lotion at best just soothes superficially -- it will do nothing for the underlying reason why the breakouts are happening. ...Read more

Alopecia: It sounds like you have alopecia areata and the short answer is there is no cure for this. Stress is usually the cause. Sometimes steroid shots into the area of hair loss may help to encourage hair regrowth. You may also have a fungal infection, you may be balding, etc. ...Read more

Hair loss, dandruff and grinding teeth. Is there a relation between the three?

Maybe: Increased stress also increases frequency and severity of grinding, especially night-time during sleep. I am not educated in hair loss and dandruff, but it seems reasonable to correlate these changes. Some hair loss may be genetic, but if you are suddenly losing hair with increased dandruff, both circulation ; secretion to supply hair and scalp may be decreased. Report to your dr @ annual exam. ...Read more
