Stubborn, mild acne not responding to antibiotics or topical creams. Accutane seems too extreme for non-cystic acne. Help?!
Keep at it.: There are three main parts to approaching acne...1) reduce the amount of bacteria on skin.. 2) keep pores open...3) reduce oil production. Antibiotics can be topical and/or oral. Other surface treatments aim to reduce bacteria and/or keep pores open. Keep experimenting and working with your doctor until you find the right mix. It can take a few weeks to see improvement even with right mix. ...Read more

Yes: But Bacitracin has not been shown to be of any value on any kind of wound. In experimental studies, those using vaseline or aquaphor healed the same or better than Bacitracin when used on surgical wounds. Bacithacin is a common sensitizer. A few years ago it was named the allergen of the year. Same for neosporin and triple antibiotic. Wash the cut, then keep it lubricated. ...Read more

Acne: If it is the deep hormonal type acne around the chin, mouth, nose, and middle forehead area- the only topical that I have seen work is a product from Europe called Juvases teens. It works by inhibiting the action of the hormone on the sebaceous gland so it never erupts in the first place. Also - an excellent gentle scrub is important as well. I like Mandelac acid scrub, professional strength. ...Read more
I read that accutane can cause hair loss due to vitamin a, but that topical tretinoin cream can cause hair regrowth. How does this make sense?
It doesn't: Because this is not the case, may be with some anecdotal cases, but not the norm or a common effect or side effect, the drug works on the sebaceous glands not the hair follicles. ...Read more

What vitamines can I take during accutane? Any would help? C? E? I know you can't take a, but the others? Thank you xx
The rest are okay: I'd urge you to get your vitamins from a balanced diet rather than a bottle. Avoid taking vitamin a itself; if your dermatologist isn't adverse to your taking a multivitamin with only a small amount of a, it would be okay. Your vitamin d can come from reasonable sun exposure. ...Read more
Pretty safe: Accutane has some issues, especially birth defects if taken while pregnant, but most of the other popularized "dangers" are significantly overblown. Still, it must be prescribed by a doctor with experience in its use, and you must join a registry (ipledge) as an added precaution against pregnancy. ...Read more
Very good: Accutane is very drug useful for treatment resistant acne. However, there are several restrictions on its use.
