Diet and maybe meds: A difficult problem. Be sure it is not related to nerve issues such as in diabetic gastroparesis. Trying to eat small meals throughout the day (grazing) can help. Be sure to avoid irritants such as caffeine and tobacco as both make heartburn worse by relaxing the muscles at the opening of the stomach. No: Acid reflux is physiologic. In other words, it's normal. However, it becomes pathologic when it bothers you. Fermented food doesn't cause acid reflux any more than non-fermented food. However, "bad" acid reflux allows acid to get high enough back up esophagus to cause sore throat. Antacids (calcium carbonate), H2 blockers & proton pump inhibitors help.
