I have had pain in my back right bottom tooth but it had a root canal. I grind there so is it sore root?

I have had pain in my back right bottom tooth but it had a root canal. I grind there so is it sore root?

Could be fractured: You don't say if the back tooth has had a crown on it, but after root canals, molars can break if you grind on them. Dentists put crowns on these teeth to protect them from fracture after root canals. Get this checked by your dentist - a fractured root hurts in the jaw bone, not in the middle of the tooth. ...Read more

Sounds like cavity: It sounds like you have a cavity with some irritation. Hopefully you will only need a filling and not a root canal. Only your dentist will be able to tell you if you need a root canal after they do an exam. Please see a dentist as soon as possible. ...Read more

Had terrible toothache in upper left tooth. Pain went away after three days. X-rays-no root canal needed. Gums sore and cheek puffy. Root canal needed?

Probably: Radiographs are not a crystal ball... they don't disclose everything. Did your dentist check to see if the tooth was vital (alive)? Swelling may be from a periodontal issue, so yes, in that case root canal may not be needed. More info necessary to make a proper diagnosis. Have your dentist re-examine you or refer you to an endodontist if s/he can't determine the cause of your swelling. ...Read more

Get Checked: See the Dentist and get checked. It may be normal healing response depending on the complexity of the problem. If still not resolved after the course of antibiotics, then additional treatment may be required. Often it takes months for the discomfort from pressure to subside, but tissue should resolve once infection clears up. Good Luck. ...Read more

I'm waiting to crown the tooth in 2 wks after root canal. But it keeps mild tender and sometimes I saw a little blood oozed onto floss, is it normal?

I'm waiting to crown the tooth in 2 wks after root canal. But it keeps mild tender and sometimes I saw a little blood oozed onto floss, is it normal?

Perfectly Normal: It's not uncommon to have mild tenderness following root canal therapy (RCT) - especially while waiting to have the tooth crowned. Some people even have "phantom pain" - pain for the nerve that is removed in the RCT. The filling you have is temporary so some bleeding on floss is normal as well. If it worsens, you can call either the dentist that did the RCT or your general dentist to check it. ...Read more

I had a root canal a month ago and my tooth is still tender. How long does it take for the tenderness to go away?

Depends: Pain is a function of many things and depends on the host's response to those things. These may include but not limited to the elimination of the causative agent, treatment, ability to heal, ect. Normal inflammation subsides on average in 7-14 days in a healthy individual. It is impossible for me to determine what is delaying your improvement without additional information, see you DDS for help ...Read more

I had root canal treatment, is it normal that the teeth next to the treated tooth feel tender to biting?

I had root canal treatment, is it normal that the teeth next to the treated tooth feel tender to biting?

Yes this can: Be noted. One possible reson is that the bite load on the treated tooth was changed or even removed as a part of the root canal procedure. This places a little more load/chewing stress on the adjacent teeth. Also, inflammation from the "sick" tooth can have an influence on the neighbors. Explain this issue w your treating dentist. ...Read more

I have symptoms of sinusitis with mild facial swelling. A year ago, I had a root canal on the same side on the upper molar number two with a crown placed. That tooth is tender now. What could be the cause of swelling, tooth or sinus? I am not sure whom to

Dentist First: From you history, i would start with the root canal tooth, then work from there. It is possible, given your timeline, that the root canal possibly failed, and the infection recurred. If so, treatment is necessary and may allow you to still save the tooth. It is possible it's a sinus infection, but my first guess would be the rct tooth. You want a "pa x-ray", digital if possible, or ct scan. ...Read more
