Tonsillitis Treatment Amoxicillin
I get tonsillitis maybe 1 or 2 times per years always get amoxicillin to cure it. How can I avoid this or other treatments ?
Tonsillectomy?: You don't want to let throat infections go without treating them as bad things can result. If you're having that many infections each year, you might wanna consider having your tonsils removed. If you're an adult (as I assume) then this isn't a trivial operation but it might give you some relief. ...Read more
If I was taking amoxicillin for my tonsillitis will the amoxicillin help cure gonarrhea because my sex partner say he has gonarrhea?
No! See doc asap!: Gonorrhea (gc) has become a very resistant bacteria. To make matters worse, when there is gc there is often other bacteria that need to be treated. I would be concerned the tonsillitis could even be from the gc itself. Gc needs an injected antibiotic called Ceftriaxone to cure it and it would be worth being treated for chlamydia at same time which needs a different pill. See your doctor asap! ...Read more
I have what looks like tonsillitis or infected toncills, I have amoxicillin should I take it to help?
No: Never take antibiotics indiscriminately. It only leads to antibiotic resistance. Most infections are viral and go away with time. If patients have antibiotics at home, when I see them in the office I tell them whether or not to take it, and if culture or strep test is needed, tell them to take it if the results are positive. ...Read more

My daughter is 17 months and was diagnosed with tonsillitis 3days ago. She was put on amoxicillin 5ml 3 times a day. Today she has a light rash.
Rash and tonsillitis: Strep tonsillitis can have a rash associated with it but it is sandpapery in texture and in the warm areas of the body (groin axilla etc.). Sometimes Amoxicillin can cause a fine rash but usually about seven days into treatment. Finally if it was not proven strep it could have been a viral tonsillitis and some viruses can cause a rah. Lastly antibiotic allergy can cause a rah. Talk to your M.D. ...Read more
I have really bad tonsillitis, been on amoxicillin 50mg for 2 and a half days, not clearing it as fast as I would like, can I take 4 a day?
Even better idea..: Get another antibiotic. There's a lot of resistance to the penicillin derivatives in the bacteria out there these days. Amoxicillin just might not be working at all, and might not work no matter how much you take of how long you take it. Rather than fiddle with the dose yourself, revisit your doctor and get a different antibiotic. ...Read more

How long does it take for tonsillitis to clear up? 1 swollen tonsil for a week w/ white patch. Other symptoms improving. On amoxicillin past 4 days.
Tonsillitis: This is highly variable and may depend on the frequency with which you have had this previously, the organism responsible, whether it is susceptible to the antibiotic prescribed, and other factors. If this has not become asymptomatic within a week go back and revisit the doctor. If only the patch remains, you could either ignore it or see an ENT doctor to determine if further management is needed. ...Read more
Tonsillitis and started talking amoxicillin pills 3days now. I went from having some puss on my tonsil to it covered? Could it be something else?
Call the Dr who Rx'd: The Dr who examined, Dx'd and Rx'd is the best to ask. No one else can do it w/o seeing you, getting a swab and testing it. Don't stop the pills - take as prescribed! Be patient and call them ASAP. ...Read more

I'm 5 weeks pregnant have tonsillitis for 3 days on antibiotics amoxicillin and now coughing up bloody phlegm but it's very hard to bring up, normal?
More info: Coughing up bloody sputum is often cause for concern, but the most common cause is simply bronchitis. If you're having other symptoms, or the blood persists or worsens, I'd revisit your doctor. At a minimum, I would discuss this with the person who prescribed your antibiotics, as they're the only one with your complete clinical picture. ...Read more

Is having sudden nauseous bouts after stopping amoxicillin for more than 2 weeks normal? 500g for tonsilitis, took it for 7 days (complete course).
Not normal but...: I recommend a re-evaluation by your doctor since the sudden nausea is not normal. Associating this symptom with your recent use of amoxicillin, is presumptive- depending on certain situations, there might be another reason for the sudden nausea that has lasted for more than 2 weeks. ...Read more
Not surprising: Tonsillitis can be caused frequently by a viral infection. Therefore, an antibiotic is not needed. Secondly as high as 40 to 50% of non-typable hemophilus influenza (a bacteria often causing tonsil infection) is not sensitive to amoxicillin. The correct way to treat tonsillitis is to culture the throat before treatment and determine what bacteria may be the cause and treat specifically. ...Read more

I have bacterial tonsillitis and im in extreme severe pain! I'm taking my second round of amoxicilin and was wondering what I should take or do for the horrible horrible pain.?
Get re-evaluated: For tonsilitis, amoxicilin should do the job and you should feel better after few days of therapy. Since you are on second round of amoxicillin, it may not be the right med for you--possible resistent bug. Also, tonsillitis usually does not cause "horrible pain." I suggest getting re-evalutated for possible abscess, aphthous ulcers which can be very painfull. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
