Yes: Enlarged tonsils are a frequent occurrence, even when healthy, however they may cause significant discomfort if/when you do present with an illness, e.g., head cold or sore throat (especially strep throat). If you are concerned, please see your doctor. A thorough exam will help determine if an intervention, such as tonsillectomy, would benefit you and/or prevent future discomfort. Read more

Exudate?: Without seeing it directly, it is hard to tell. But if it hasn't been there long, it may be a tonsillar exudate (pus). Exudates can form from bacterial or viral illnesses. If this is the case, your pediatrician can sample the exudate to determine if it is strep throat. See your pediatrician especially if she has a fever of greater than 100.4F, no cough, and swollen neck glands. Read more

Tonsilloliths: From your description, I have to guess that you have already had your tonsils out. If the color is a flesh color or pink or even red, it could be residual tonsillar tissue that was either incompletely removed or it could be tonsil from the back of your tongue. It is not uncommon to have earaches with pain in the tonsil beds, so it is probably referred pain. This might explain the glands, too. Read more
