May be an infection: Or perhaps a nickel allergy or metal allergy. I would have dermatologist look at it to verify and treat depending on cause. Likely you will need to remove pierce and at least consider different metal. Hope that helps ...Read more

Take a close look: In the mirror using a light. Raise your tongue and take a look. Is there a torn area or a small ulcerated area? A blister? Usually in these cases the pain is due to a local mucosa problem. Occasionally people with tongue piercings will have nerve damage or erosion of the area related to having an object present.
