How to know that papillae (red bumps) at the back of tongue are enlarged? I noticed them for the first time in my life, don't know if they are OK or no

Probably not: Enlarged. The papillae at the back or base of the tongue are known as the circumvallate papillae and tend to be relatively large compared to the other papillae. Most people don't see them because you have to stick your tongue out fairly far to see them. Unless you are having pain, a sore throat, ulceration or other symptoms, I wouldn't worry about them. ...Read more

Probably not a wart: This probably isn't a wart, just a temporarily inflamed or irratated papilla. Oral warts are rare, not dark red, and usually multiple. Any single bump is unlikely to be a wart. See your doctor or dentist if it persists or you otherwise remain concerned. ...Read more

Recently I had enlarged circumvallate papillae I've taken antibiotic, did mouthwash and took antibacterial tablets and nothing? I have a weird mouth taste and my mouth is dry most of time what'swrong?

Self medication: Self medication is counter-productive and may be dangerous. Enlarged papillae doesn't mean that they are infected (so antibiotic's wrong) or inflamed (so mouthwash's wrong). See professionals, both your Dentist and your Physician. What you think are large papillae may be normal, or may have a physical cause. Weird taste and dry mouth may be due to meds, systemic disease, syndrome. See Pros. ...Read more
