How does heart burn feel differently from heart attack pain?

How does heart burn feel differently from heart attack pain?

Hard to tell: It is at times difficult to differentiate between pain due to heart diease and that caused by problems of the upper GI tract. Specific symptoms, age, personal and family medical history may all help in making a determination. However, it is never a good idea to assume that indigestion is the cause. Better to go to the er and get an evaluation than to take an antacid and find out you were wrong. ...Read more

When I wake up I have major heart burn. Is that from the trazodone?

Not likely.: It is probably from lying flat and reflux. Can try a proton pump inhibitor (prilosec / Prevacid (lansoprazole) are now over the counter) for about 7-14 days in the evenings and see if symptoms disappear. If not, to be safe, should see a doc. Can also try sleeping in recliner / at >30degree angle for 2-3 nights and see if no symptoms--this would support gerd as cause. ...Read more

How can I tell if I am having a heart burn or heart attack? It seems that symptoms of heart burn and heart attack are very similar, how can I tell the differences and the warning signs before it's too late

Treat heartburn: It can be hard to tell the difference even for your doctor without testing. I find it very useful to treat the heartburn proactively by avoiding foods that cause it and maybe using medication to suppress it if needed. That way you are less likely to get any chest pain. You should also talk to your doctor about modifying your risk factors for heart disease. ...Read more

Metronidazole dose: You took quite a large dose of metronidazole, so the side effects are magnified. Luckily the half-life of the drug is 8 hrs or so, so it should be clearing out of your system in a day or slightly longer... (in 8 hours, half of the drug will be gone, then in 16 hours half of that...so soon it will be gone). You should tell your doctor about it, so they know next time when trying to treat you. ...Read more
