My mother has OA in her right big toe. Big toe joint is brittle and pains with swelling. Do we need to freeze the movement of joint?
Synovitis: The joint capsule seems to be inflamed which can happen in osteoarthritis. The disease state called pseudogout is also a possibility with osteoarthritis. It is diagnosed and treated the same as gout would be. Need to see a podiatrist or orthopedic or primary care for physical exam, X-Ray and potential Uric acid testing along with empiric treatment with steroids or colchicine. Def see doc! ;) ...Read more
I have three broken toes, my big one, the one next to it, and my pinky. It's been three weeks and I'm still in a cast. How much longer before I can take off the cast?
Talk to your doctor: It sounds like you may have broken more than the toes alone. If you have been placed in cast, it is intended to immobilize and stabilize the broken bones. In general you can expect to be in a cast for 4-6 weeks, but this is often monitored by xrays. Talk to your doctor to clarify the treatment plan. ...Read more
I have stinging feeling in both my big toes when lm walking and putting pressure on my toes my big toes really sting?
Can you have a bunion on the top of big toe. Left big toe is turning inward & I can't bend it down as far as right toe.
Yes: A bump on the top of the big toe joint develops with jamming of that joint and formation of spurring. This can be caused by trauma or elevation of the metatarsal bone. Early treatment consists of steroid injections and custom inserts to improve joint function. As it advances, surgery may be needed to restore joint function, insert a joint implant or even fuse the joint to stop painful motion. ...Read more
Bunions on both toes (not big), wear flexible splints (unprescribed).Dr:theres nothing wrong &gave some exercise. My grandfather's were big&Im afraid. Help?
Not to worry.: Bunions are generally not a concern unless painful. Custom orthotics/arch supports can slow the progression of bunions. X-rays would be needed to fully evaluate your bunions and offer treatment options. See a Board Certified Podiatrist for a complete evaluation and treatment options. ...Read more
My PT acted as though there could be something other than just nerve damage as to why I can't bend my toes except big toe?

Second if there muscle weakness or a problem with the tendon. A foot specialist can make the diagnosis and order further tests based on your examination. ...Read more
What would cause Metatarsal pain in both feet? I do have Morton's toe, where my second toe is bigger than my big toe, on both feet.
Metatarsalgia: See your podiatrist so he can take xrays of your feet. This way they can be evaluated to see if the lesser toes are longer than the big toe and that is why there is pain due to transfer pressure to the longer metatarsals. Orthotics can be made to help redistribute the forces under foot and to better balance out the pressures and thereby alleviating the pain. ...Read more

My 2nd toe, my big toe constantly rubs, & now I have what looks like a small blister, with a black dot in the centre its soft, & painfull, is it a corn?

See a dermatologist: Begin by defining the problem. Is fungus the primary concern? Oral terbinafine for 3 months is safe and costs $12 cash. It is about 60% effective as judged by result 1 year later. Laser costs $1000, not covered by insurance, uncertain result. You need a year to find out if it helped. The cream costs over $1000 for less than 10% success. You pick one. ...Read more
Stubbed toe, (beside big toe) few days ago, bruising, min. Swelling but hurts when I move it, esp. Right on top of foot, could I have fractured it?
Maybe: Only way to tell is with an X-ray. If the toe is still straight, the only thing that is usually done is a splint to the adjacent toe. If the symptoms are bad enough, and/or the toe is deformed, best to have an X-ray. See an orthopedist next week to get this done. Otherwise, need to go to an ER. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Big toe on Campus.: Toe shape, length and width will vary widely with the size of the foot. So clearly the width alone has little significance in the description. Until the ratio of toe length to toe width exceeds 1:1, the broadness may not even be recognized. Even then, unless the big toe stands alone in excessive width, it could still appear normal in size, in relation to the other toes on the foot. ...Read more
