My child has a bad reaction to mosquito bites. Is he allergic?

Probably.: Allergy to proteins in mosquito saliva is common but immunotherapy (allergy injections) is neither effective nor necessary. With continued exposure almost everyone develops tolerance to mosquitoes in their locale. When they go elsewhere they're bitten by other mosquitoes & often reactions reappear. This is why mosquitoes only seem to bite tourists & not natives. All are bitten; only newbies notice. ...Read more

8 mo old allergy to dog Cough, runny nose, congestion, crackling, wheezing. Sick 3 months 2 antibiotics 2 diff allergy meds Symptoms began After dog ?

Test for allergy?: You might consider other reasons such as food allergy or household irritants, if child has signs of allergic illness = atopy, you need to be smarter about what the allergen really is. If this came on months after dog exposure, hard to make the dog the source necessarily. Suggest skin/blood tests at 1 yr to confirm your hunch, avoidance may not be the solution ...Read more

I would suggest that you avoid shellfish or discontinue breastfeeding. At age 4 months, it is also time to introduce table foods (no shellfish) to the child's diet since this may actually reduce the risk of developing yet more food allergies. ...Read more
