Excessive sweating of a toddler while at sleep. And cold to touch, starting from his head down to back. What's the real problem?

Excessive sweating of a toddler while at sleep. And cold to touch, starting from his head down to back. What's the real problem?

Sweating at night: Children's heads have a large surface area and they sweat to dissipate heat. If he is an active sleeper and wears a one-piece sleeper, is covered with a blanket, he may be sweating from the heat generated by his moving around. His head would have the most sweat then. If he is completely normal otherwise, it is not a problem. Double check that with your pediatrician next time you see him/her. ...Read more

Reduce covers: Your room may be warmer than needed, or you may have more covers than needed. What you described does not seem to be a health issue. If you lose weight, see a doctor. Just try reducing the room temperature or reduce the amount of covers.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Monitor baby carefully for blue and cold fingers and toes. Don't use too many blankets. Here's a good hand-out: http://www. Nih. My 4 weeks baby was sleeping with us in our bed covered under our blanket he was sweating when he woke up, how could it harm his skin or health?

I agree. Put him on: His back in his crib for naps & nighttime to reduce the risk of sids. If you have a consistent bedtime & routine of rocking, nursing, reading & wiping out his mouth after the last feed, then put him in his crib drowsy, but awake, he'll learn to self calm for sleep. This increases his chances of consolidating sleep by 4 mos. & prevents developmental night-crying at or after 6 mos. ...Read more

Could be due to PTU (propylthiouracil): The most common side effects are related to the skin and include rash, itching, hives, abnormal hair loss, and skin pigmentation.

My 2yo sweats excessively (head/back) after running around & when he falls asleep. His head is literally soaked. Any cause for concern?

Not necessarily: The head of a kid that age is a relatively large part of their body surface area and an easy portal to discard heat/sweat after running around. If the kid is robust, engaging in vigorous play, feeding well and growing normally I would have little concern. If he has only brief active periods followed by prolonged rest, I would want him evaluated. ...Read more

I've been waking myself up during sleep by lightly stroking my face, chest or arms and often get night sweats. Is this some kind of sleep disorder?

Night sweats: If the temperature is not too high in your bed room, night sweats can be an important symptom of infection or another problem. It is a good idea to have a face to face check up with this symptom.

There are sleep disorders when movements occur, but light touching of the face, chest or arms is apparently not one of them. ...Read more

Likely scraped wall: The ear wax is created in the outer half of the canal and will fall out if left alone. Whatever you can scoop out with your fingernail under direct vision is fine to move. Otherwise, leave the ear alone. Any swab or q-tip placed in the canal can & will scrape the wall & make it bleed occasionally. It will also push the wax in so far it will never pack the ear drum.
