I had an X-ray on my hip and my doctor says it is normal. Why does it grate and grind when i walk, and is very painfull. I do have osteoarthris.

Bursitis probably: If the xrays are negative, the pain and grating/grinding most likely is due to trochanteric bursitis. You may have osteoarthritis in other joints. You need to take nsaids, use heating pad, and do stretching exercises, as these would help to reduce the symptoms. If not then a steroid shot might be helpful. ...Read more

MDI: Sounds like you have a condition of generalized ligamentous laxuty that is causing your joints to 'pop and grind'. If your shoulder 'slips' or pops or goes' dead' occasionally w/ activities or when u sleep ors characterize this condition as multidirectional instability ( mdi).Of course , if you develop pain w/ above or symptoms worsen, see your pcp for referral to an ors for definitive dx.
