Toddler Drooling Fever
14 month old son has a fever and consistently drooling. Molars may be coming in but the fever stay at 101 regardless of the medicine. Is this normal?
Other symptoms?: Fever itself is never an evil "symptom." it is a sign of an infection that if fully vaccinated-may be a virus germ that will improve with"comfort" care and support. Numbers on a thermometer are not as important as associated symptoms/comfort and severity/duration. You may watch and wait for your toddler-offer meds if he tolerates/needs it. Follow up with your pediatrician if things worsen. ...Read more
13 mo old had a fever 102-103.9 for 3 days now her temp is down to 100.5, but she's very still cranky, fussy, clingy & drooling. Should I worry?
See your doctor: Have you been to her doctor yet? Maybe there is an infection in her ear or her throat or somewhere else, and her doctor could give her something that will make her feel better. Or maybe this is a virus that will run its course. There are two ways to tell: you can give it more time, but you run the risk of worsening infection, or you could get a doc who knows the difference to examine her. ...Read more

His doctor will decide if he needs antibiotics or not, I hope he gets better soon. Good luck ...Read more

What is pre teething? Can teething symptoms appear in a 10 week old? We have chewing, drooling, rubbing her face in her sleep, not sleeping well, etc. With no fever.
Of course: Your teeth just don't pop out of you gums like pop tarts out of the toaster. They have to cut their way through virgin gums that have never been cut through before. Your adult teeth don't do this because a path is already there. However, when baby's first teeth are coming in, there are weeks if not months of cutting through those gums, which includes the drooling, fussy etc etc. ...Read more

Interesting: This seems like a very unusual way of treating an episode of tonsillitis. Normally I put patients on oral antibiotics and if necessary oral steroids. I'm not sure what your doctor was trying to accomplish with this measure but if you're not a lot better soon you should see an ENT doctor. ...Read more

My daughter had a febrile seizure last night. Is salivating and drooling a normal post side effect? She is 15 months.
Yes: I see no reason not to give a toddler milk when febrile. This old myth probably gains followers because some of the kids have fever first & start barfing later. The milk takes a bit longer to digest & curdles due to normal stomach acid. If they barf, they usually blame the milk, though it is really the nature of the illness. ...Read more
No cough meds: There are NO GOOD cough medicines for toddlers. The studies very clearly show they don't work and have undesirable side effects. Try some honey in tea, warm showers and a humidifier. With regard to fever reducer, remember fever is just a symptom and doesn't usually "need" treatment. However, if the child is feeling bad because of the fever, then acetaminophen and ibuprofen work equally as well. ...Read more

If my toddler (1 year 3 months) with HFMD had the fever for the first two days and the fever came back on the 7th day? Is that normal?
My toddler vomitted for several hours yesterday without fever nor diahra. Today she is back to normal. I wonder what illness could she have?
May not have been il: A kid can certainly have a brief vomiting episode from an infectious trigger & viruses are most common. However, given toddlers interest in exploring the world & using their taste buds to test their curiosity; this could have been related to ingesting a foreign substance. Anything at babies level;potted plants with bugs or moss, etc. I've seen amazing things end up in their poo over 3 decades. ...Read more
