Toddler Activities Fire Truck
Is it normal for a toddler to sometimes repeat last syllable of a word? For example truck-k-k or feet-t-t. He only does it once in a while.
Non-fluency is seen: In typically-developing tots age 2-5. Stuttering that starts < 3 usually is outgrown in ~ 6 mos. Have a speech/language therapist test him if it lasts > 6 months. Don't pressure him to stop repeating phonemes, the smallest units of sound in a language, or rush him. You can gently repeat what he says without the stutter, as in, " You'd like to play with the truck?" Read, talk & play. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Probably: Fire ants sting & inject solenopsin - an alkaloid venom. This causes a welt which can become fairly swollen. Within hours to a day a sterile pustule usually forms. If the whole foot is swollen this could represent an allergic reaction. What you are describing may be a fairly normal fire ant sting reaction. When in doubt see a physician for evaluation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
9-18 months: From your spoon to her spoon: You can help your baby extend her interest in spoon foods while she is learning finger foods by 1) giving her a small spoon of her own; 2) Alternating bites (she feeds herself and then a separate spoon you are holding; 3) Putting some food on the spoon for her - so she can get to the good part fast. Learning a spoon may take months, but looking back it will seem quick. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Be persistent: The new found freedom of a toddler bed often leads to middle-of-the night visits to your bed. If you persistently return your child to his bed, he will learn to stay in his bed. If you sometimes allow him to sleep with you, he will continue to seek your bed. Deep sleepers unintentionally reinforce co-sleeping, because they fail to awaken. Put a bell on your door, alerting you to visitors. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
