This : This could be razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis), skin tags, warts, molluscum, a scar, or several other possibilities. I think you should probably see a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis and to discuss treatment options. I hope that helps. ...Read more

Is it possible to get impetigo on your buttocks from a cut ? I can't tell if the cuts are just infected or irritated from the rubbing of clothing.

Yes: Minor cuts can often become infected with staph and become crusted on the surface. This yellow golden crusted area is known as impetigo. Bactroban (mupirocin) ointment is a prescription that is highly effective at treating this even if the staph aureus involved is mrsa. If you have recurrent lesions, treating the inner nostrils with the ointment for 1 week each month may prevent outbreaks. ...Read more

How to clean desiten off the skin ? My elderly client is having a sores in her between legs & i put desiten but its hard to remove it from the skin.

Wash with water!: Desetin or zinc oxide is kind of sticky and is hard to remove, even though it is a good barrier cream. Washing with water and soap will get rid of it. I advise patients to choose petroleum jelly in its place. In your case, the sores between legs could be fungal infection, which may need medical attention. Please have the patient checked by the doctor as prescription medications may be needed. ...Read more

Minor steam burn on index finger, about the size of a pea, what can I put on it to stop the burning and to prevent any infection?

Minor steam burn on index finger, about the size of a pea, what can I put on it to stop the burning and to prevent any infection?

Antibiotic ointment: It sounds like you have a very small 2nd-degree (i.e., partial-thickness) burn. You should keep it clean with washing and keep it gooped up with antibiotic ointment (e.g., bacitracin, polysporin, (bacitracin and polymyxin) neosporin, triple-antibiotic ointment) until it is healed, which will take a few days to up to 3 weeks. For the pain, use minor analgesics, such as Ibuprofen or acetaminophen. ...Read more

What would the blood look like from an anal abrasion from wiping too much as a result of going to the bathroom 3 times a day? Will the skin heal?

Rectal Bleeding: The color of blood in the stool often depends on the location of the bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. Generally, the closer the bleeding site is to the anus, the brighter red the blood will be. Thus, bleeding from the anus, rectum, and the sigmoid colon tends to be bright red, whereas bleeding from the transverse colon and the right colon tends to be dark red or maroon-colored. ...Read more

I accidentally cut myself with my razor and it is sort of deep and the white layer of skin under it is showing. What can heal it up quickly?

I accidentally cut myself with my razor and it is sort of deep and the white layer of skin under it is showing. What can heal it up quickly?

Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more

Massage!: Don't beat yourself up too much about the hydrogen peroxide. It does slow healing of wounds, but lips heal so quickly, i doubt you did any harm. Scar massage takes time to work (2-3 months) and it cannot completely erase the scar. It will smooth and soften the scar and improve the color over time. Good luck! ...Read more
