Dr. Benjamin Vela answered:

Can TMJ pain start at any time? Saw DDS in Apr. for exam had no problems. Now pain when opening mouth but also swollen lymph nodes in neck.

Definitely

Head-mouth
TMJ (Disorder) can occur at anytime and can come and go with periods of stress or difference in routine. Swollen lymph nodes are not commonly associated and I would go back for a quick check up in case it's actually something else.

What are swollen lymph nodes?

Monitoring Centers

Enlarged_lymph_nodes
Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells/digested food. Lymph Nodes "taste" the lymph EVERYWHERE for bad stuff like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well

Are swollen lymph nodes visible?

Lymph nodes

Enlarged_lymph_nodes
Not always. Imaging studies like CT scan or MRI often find enlarged lymph nodes that are not palpable.

Swollen lymph nodes in wide pipe?

Wind pipe, u mean?

Enlarged_lymph_nodes
Enlarged nodes in the chest can be the result of many things, some more serious than others. Rather than speculating and giving you a mile long list, I would suggest you talk to the doc who ordered the scan and ask him/her about the implications of the scan and what to do next. Best to you.

Do swollen lymph nodes come and go?

Sure

Enlarged_lymph_nodes
Depends on the cause. Swollen nodes caused by infection or inflammation would be expected to go back to normal whereas those caused by cancer normally keep on growing (there are exceptions even to this, though). Moral of the story: unexplained enlargement of nodes should be evaluated by your doc. Best to you.

Do swollen lymph nodes mean cancer?

No

Enlarged_lymph_nodes
Swollen lymph nodes can occur in cancer, but can also be reactive to infection or other inflammatory process. Swollen nodes alone certainly does not confer a cancer diagnosis. Your PCP can examine the area in question and if there's suspicion a biopsy or additional imaging could be done.
