What is the treatment for tizanidine overdose?

What is the treatment for tizanidine overdose?

Supportive: There is no reversal agent or antidote for tizanidine. Since this has similar sedactive effects like some muscle relaxants. Treatment is mainly supportive especially respiratory function. This is ideally done at the emergency room or hospital. Other measures include contacting the poison control center.

What muscle relaxant would you prescribe for chronic neck & back pain? Soma, zanaflex, (tizanidine) flexeril?

What muscle relaxant would you prescribe for chronic neck & back pain? Soma, zanaflex, (tizanidine) flexeril?

See below: I avoid Soma as it is essentially a tranquilizer, not a muscle relaxer. Both Zanaflex and Flexeril are good medications. There best one is the one that works best for you. Other options (less sedating) are Baclofen and skelaxin (metaxalone).

C-12 to c-15 got stuck, had d.O pop them back in place today. Then I got tizanidine prescribed for every 8 hrs. I still hurt. Is this a good treatment?

C12 to C15?: I'm not sure what you mean by this. There is no c-12 or c-15. There are seven cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae and 5 lumbar vertebrae. Tizanidine is a good muscle relaxant, but I'm not a big fan of any muscle relaxants for my patients.

My doctor recommended I take tanaflex (tizanidine) for my severe back spasms. Is it effective?

My doctor recommended I take tanaflex (tizanidine) for my severe back spasms. Is it effective?

Probably: Tizanidine (Zanaflex) is a well tested muscle relaxant. It may cause dizzy ness or lowering of blood pressure so be careful when changing positions from lying to standing. There is more compelling literature on Skelaxin (metaxalone) specifically in the treatment of low back pain. In my experience, Zanaflex works best in the small muscles of the neck, while Skelaxin (metaxalone) better in low back pain.

Drug side effects: Neurologic side effects of tizanidine include tremor, dyskinesias [likely the tic-like symptom you were referring to], seizures, asthenia, and somnolence. Should discuss this with your doctor, to get help being sure your symptoms represent the drug side effects

Can I take lithium and Zanaflex (tizanidine) together?

Can I take lithium and Zanaflex (tizanidine) together?

Caution warranted: Hopefully the same physician is prescribing all your medications, or at least knows all you're taking. Zanaflex (tizanidine) is a muscle relaxer that can cause drowsiness. This could be accentuated if you're on lithium. However, I see you're also on klonopin, which is more likely to cause sedation than lithium. Please discuss all these with your doctor and your pharmacist.

I reached goal dose of zanaflex (tizanidine) may 18, but had some improvement in last couple days. Is this meds taking full effect or are my symptoms improving?

Hard to know: Firstly, good for you! The question might be possible to answer, but it requires sifting through all sorts of things - like what might be different in your life - what you are doing differently inside and out. You might want to find a good therapist to help you understand it all before you taper down. Never just stop w/o guidance. Happy for you!
