Titanium Plates And Screws
I recently had a spinal fushion in my neck. Had a titanium plate and screws put in. What damage from a 110, household electrical shock do?
I had an acdf of c5-c7 with allograft, titanium plate and screws. I am 39 years old. When can I run again? I do half marathons.
Post-op instructions: When you were discharged from the hospital you should have gotten instructions from your surgeon explaining what type of activity you can participate in and when. I bet the answer is in there. If you have questions, call the next business day and ask to talk to your surgeon or his/her nurse for clarification on activity level.See 2 more doctor answers
Has my cerebrolspinal fluids been compromised for life since I had to recieve a titanium plate with 4 screws to support my skull left upper cheekbone?
Uncertain why: You need to discuss this with your physician or the surgeon who first operated on you
Is it worth while to get my titanium plate and 4 screws in my leg removed? I get pressure change pain from the weather. It has been 8 years.
Talk to orthopedist: Depends on the break that required it, how good your bone is, age, etc. Ask the orthopedist (or another one-it has been 8 tears, the first one may not have your records anymore).
How come vp shunts don't set off the metal detectors at airports? Will titanium plates/screws set them off? Does it depend on the size of the metal?
Not iron: Vp shunts, although visible on x-ray, are not metallic and will not set off a magnetometer at the airport. Similarly, titanium is not ferromagnetic and does not set off these metal detectors as strongly as iron does. Some titanium implants are iron alloys and react more strongly in the detectors. And yes, the size of any implant makes a big difference in how much it sets off the detector.
I has an ORIF procedure done on my right clavicle (collar Bone) using Titanium plates and 7 screws. Its healing now. Do I need to remove the plate?
No hardware removal: You do not have to have the plate and screws removed unless they are prominent and rubbing on the skin or are causing pain. Routine plate and screw removal is not usually done because it requires a second surgery and there are holes in the bone where the screws were removed that may make it easier for the clavicle to fracture in the future.
No: Your titanium screws should not be affected.See 1 more doctor answer

I have a titanium plate in my arm and it contains 7 screws. I fell on it and my arm is swollen where a screw is. Should I be concerned?
I had neck surgery for herniated disc they put a 2 inch titanium plate to replace disc does the screws come loose and cause pain?
It shouldn't...: But it could theoretically. An x-ray could help to tell. See your doctor, there are lots of simpler reasons for pain.See 2 more doctor answers
C1-C3 fusion with six screws and hourglass-shaped titanium plate 15 years ago. Can the hardware potentially cause Eustachian tube sensitivity problems?
Slim possibility: Difficult to define how the body will react to metal implants if sensitization develops. Local inflammation leading to Eus. Tube problems seems feasible, but unlikely. Perhaps more likely is throat irritation from acid reflux, postnasal drip or allergic or non-allergic rhinitis. If the hardware becomes unstable, then other symptoms would predominate.
Medical Standards: "Retained hardware (733.99) (including plates, pins, rods, wires, or screws used for fixation) is not disqualifying if fractures are healed, ligaments are stable, there is no pain, and it is not subject to easy trauma. Current devices, including, but not limited to silastic or titanium, implanted to correct orthopedic abnormalities (V43), are disqualifying." See:See 1 more doctor answer
I'm 68 had accidental fall in july. Titanium screws used in hip and femur. What problems can I expect?
Titanium: If you do not have an allergy to titanium then you really should not have a problem with the hardware as long as it was placed properly and your fracture has healed in good alignment.
When can I have titanium screws removed from hip and femur after accidental fall in july? What are the risk factors for accidental falls? +
Accidental falls?: Orthostatic hypotension and sedatives. Talk with u surgeon about the other subject.
Present nuclear bone scan: more uptake than previously at L3L4, L5S1.Also the prev. Titanium screws for a fusion done for L4L5 displaced. What to do?
Go. Back to surgeon: You need to go back to the surgeon whom I shall assume ordered the test. You need to talk to him about your options
I had hard fall my titanium screws came loose later on Dr said it was from smoking yet this fall ruptured my breast, filled my hip with fluid?
Hardware loosening: Is more common in smokers. Also where were the screws. If the area of the screws was not involved in the fall Ur ortho may B correct. Also if involved & were put under a lot of stress, they would most likely break, not loosen
How hard is it to get titanuim rod and screws out of femur? Is there statistic on it it breaking the bone again on removal? Had it 8 months
Fairly easy: The screws could strip but in general come out easily. The rod is then pulled out in general that too comes out easily. There is always a risk of fracturing the bone but in my experiencethe rods come out very smoothly good luck discuss with your ortho
