If I didn't take my levothyroxine for a month. And then started again can it now be too high of a dosage?
Not a good idea: A high dose of thyroid will increase your metabolic rate, but also your appetite. Will also raise your heart rate, give palpitations, stress your heart, make you hot all the time, anxious, and much more. In the medical field, this would be a clear misuse of the medication. ...Read more
Does generic of Synthroid (levothyroxine) disperse the dosage equally throughout pill. I'm on 75mcg so if i cut in half will i get 37.5mcg?
It's not the: Cutting in half that's a problem, as even if the cut is uneven it won't matter since the half-life of T4 is 7 days and the doses will overlap. The problem is that the generics aren't as reliable and the dose and potency will vary every time you get a new prescription, or the pharmacy changes suppliers, or with age and storage of the rx, etc. It is better and safer to stick w/brand name t4. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If the level of my TSH is below of 0.05 do I have to reduce the dosage.I'm taking 150 mg now of levothyroxine?
Had my TSH checked this past july came back normal 2.580. dr said to stay on .137 mc of levothyroxine. Do you agree with dosage?
My tsh was 11.46 in September, 3.37in December & 19.95 today. I am on levothyroxine 50 mcg & take medicine everyday.
What would be my correct dosage?
11.46, 3.37, 19.95: That is an unusual set of numbers. I presume your doctor has been ordering TSH levels. What I don't understand is why comments are not made regarding the wide range of TSH in 4 months. Do you have any symptoms while taking levothyroxine? I may be missing something or it might be time to see another doctor. Please let me know how things go. ...Read more
I don't understand why I need less levothyroxine after removal of my ENTIRE thyroid. My dr lowered my dosage. Does the body make more T3/4 elsewhere?
Adjust the dose: You do need levothyroxine after removal of thyroid gland. Usually if the lab test shows very low TSH then we do need to decrease the dose so that TSH comes up to acceptable level. Sometimes patients need less dose with advancing age or after losing weight. T4 is solely a product of the thyroid gland, whereas T3 is a product of the thyroid and other tissues where it is formed by deiodination of T4 ...Read more
What is the typical dosage for a new patient with hypothyroidism going on Synthroid or levothyroxine?
Depends: Since you were just diagnosed, you should work closely with your doctor to find the proper dose of levothyroxine. The dose is based on the level of your thyroid function tests. And it is calculated based on your weight. So the range of the dosage is listed as from 50 mcg to 200mcg a day. So you see that it is not possible to answer your question as precisely as you may wish. Please ask your doctor ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Check with your MD: Check with your doctor about the dosing and weaning yourself off. Maybe your dosing is too high. But lab testing should occur before, during, and after the attempt at weaning. ...Read more
