How effective are miracle ear hearing aids?

How effective are miracle ear hearing aids?

Hearing aid issue: There are two main issues when people lose their hearing 1) trouble hearing and 2) trouble understanding. People with long term hearing loss often have trouble understanding due to changes in the auditory pathway. If your father has had a long term loss and his understanding is poor then hearing aids may not help right away. Just because things are louder doesn't mean they are understood better. ...Read more

Will acetic acid help with itchy ear canals? How long after using can I put my hearing aids in? Aids go behind ear and in canal.

Will acetic acid help with itchy ear canals? How long after using can I put my hearing aids in? Aids go behind ear and in canal.

It may: Acetic acid is probably helpful for itchy ear canals but is more appropriately used as a first drug for otitis externa or infection of the ear canal skin. My recommendation for itchy ears, which usually indicates dryness and if you are a Q tip user, please stop forever, is MINERAL OIL. This medication lubricates the skin of the canal and I have had few complaints after patients use it. ...Read more

I've been told I have otosclerosis and have too have hearing aids as I have 15% hearing loss in both ears I am in constant pain with earache with it?

Need specialist eval: Your complaints of pain would not be due to otosclerosis. You need an ear nose and throat specialist evaluation to determine the cause of your pain. I have flaky itchy akin in ears, I wear hearing aids in ears and I have itchy scalp. My doctor prescribed otocomb otic ointment for ears no change.

A different drop?: I am not the biggest fan of preparations that contain neomycin as it is known to irritate the skin of some individuals, making the itching worse. Generally complete avoidance of q tips and using a different drop like dermotic (there is a generic now too) twice a day as needed can help. Also make sure you have a drying box for your hearing aids at night so they aren't too moist. ...Read more

What: What you are describing sounds like pulsatile tinnitis. Before recommending treatment, it would be reasonable to reconnect with your ENT to explore possible causes that include certain vascular tumors of the head and neck (i.e., paragangliomas), atherosclerosis that may be creating narrowing and turbulent flow of your carotid artery (which runs close to your middle ear), possible avm (arteriovenous malformation), etc. After a thorough head and neck exam, and audiogram, he/she may wish to get a contrast ct or mri/mra study. Just curious, with you being on lipoflavanoids, have you been diagnosed with meniere's disease? ...Read more

Docs, wanted to know if I can get the cochlear implants if 100% deaf in both ears and don't usually wear hearing aids everyday?

Cochlear Implants: You may be a candidate for cochlear implants. You would need to be evaluated by an implant center which would include hearing/speech evaluations. Additionally you would need to wear hearing aids for 3 months as part of the process. Medical evaluations would then be completed, including an MRI or CT of your ears. ...Read more

Ear drum: A second and or third opinion is always helpfull if for nothing else to give you peace of mind on your treatment decisions. There are always new techniques or treatments sometimes implants, surgery or both. You should seek the expertise of an ear nose and throat doctor (ent), or an otolaryngologist/surgeon. These doctors will likely know better than most the treatment options available. Good luck. ...Read more

I have had a problem from fluid behind the ear drum for several months. All the ENT wanted to talk about are hearing aids. That is not the problem?

Ask ENT why: Did your ENT do tympanograms? These show whether there is conductive hearing loss from fluid. You are right that perhaps with resolution of fluid, your hearing may improve. Ask your ENT why he thinks hearing aids are the answer. Maybe your hearing loss is more than expected with just serous otitis. Try antihistamines OTC. They are drying. ...Read more
