M 22 year old girl virgin. I do heavy weight training exercises in gym can doing squats, lunges,& exercising on leg press machine in gym break hymen?

No, but...: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. So, ignore the hymen. Usually, only in cases of alleged sexual assault upon girls and women do we physicians engage in the careful examination of hymens, collecting evidence of physical damage to be used later in courts of law. In normal everyday life, people should not be "checking hymens" nor thinking about whether they are broken or not broken. ...Read more

Does heavy weight lifting exercises in gym for one year widens the vaginal hole & make vagina loose? I m a virgin age 22

No: All women should exercise, as should all men. Whether a vagina is loose or not loose is not related to sports and exercises. Exercising does not affect the vagina, but does benefit a person's physical and mental health. Thus, everyone should be exercising regularly... without any worries about vaginas. ...Read more

Hi docs, would lifting 15 pound weights at 10 stunt your growth?

Hi docs, would lifting 15 pound weights at 10 stunt your growth?

Unlikely: Lifting 15 pound weights should not affect growth. There is some concern that extremely heavy weightlifting in children can damage the growth plates, but the weights that are worrisome are much much greater. The concern is around "power lifting" and not for conditioning weights as you describe. ...Read more

Can lifting weights put tension on your back on make you shorter o stop yourself from getting taller?

Can lifting weights put tension on your back on make you shorter o stop yourself from getting taller?

This is my theory: Theoretically it's possible that excessive weight lifting (perhaps twice your body weight) may cause pressure & compression on the discs between the spinal vertebrae. This may be worse with dead lifts, squats & shoulder press & not much with bench press. ...Read more

Can i grow taller by hanging upside down with rope tied on my ankle just like how african neck rings stretch necks? I'm not concerned about injuries

Can i grow taller by hanging upside down with rope tied on my ankle just like how african neck rings stretch necks? I'm not concerned about injuries

Nope, won't work: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the way your legs grow through growth plates within the ends of the shafts of the bones make it so your proposed method would not work. You can't stretch out those growth plates to make yourself taller, and the bone that is already there won't stretch - its like trying to stretch steel or wood - to rigid to be amenable to that. Accept what your height is. ...Read more

I am a boxer looking to improve my speed, power, explossiveness & endurance will i achieve this by weight lifting in the 8-12 & 20-25 rep range?

I am a boxer looking to improve my speed, power, explossiveness & endurance will i achieve this by weight lifting in the 8-12 & 20-25 rep range?

Yes and no..: 8-12 reps for max effort will give you power. 20-25 reps with sets will give you endurance. To gain speed and explosiveness, you need to do hand work that encompasses that action. Train for the technique, vary your workout. Doing the same thing over and over will cause your body to "acclimate" to your action and stop improving. Keep your routine varied, high intensity interval training. ...Read more

Hard to say: Lifting is a generic term that can mean a variety of things. Regular technique training to an age appropriate standard is great for everyone. The aap advises that power lifting be limited to those who have reached skeletal maturity ; learned technique from a qualified trainer.Regular resistance training is fine in teens. Dug driveway, heavy shoveling & wheelbarrow use. Pain, numbness, weakness in hands & arms daily life is difficult. Will massages help a pinched nerve?

Herniated disc: Skip the massage and go to the doctor first. The weakness and numbness in the hands is a sign of spinal cord compression. A ruptured disc due to shoveling may be making your "life difficult". A visit to the doctor and an MRI of the cervical spine is a priority before a massage. Do not go to a chiropractor for an adjustment until spinal cord compression is excluded. ...Read more

Sharp pain left hip standing to long when I lift heavy objects. And job requires me to lift heavy objects. took ibuprofen and iced does not help.

See medical provider: Sharp hip pain in a 23 year old can be several things. I would start by seeing a medical provider and getting hip x-rays. The x-rays may show nothing or possible small bone build up (impingement). After trying ibuprofen and ice, you may benefit from physical therapy or an MRI to evaluate the hip in more detail for a cartilage tear. You may also benefit from work restrictions until improved. ...Read more
