Doctor insights on: Tip of tongue twitching
I've tongue twitches every days since 1.5 month. Normal neuro exam and clean EMG 1 month after the onset. I'm a 28 y-o man. Could it be bulbar ALS?

I've tongue twitches since 01/2015. Several clean neuro exams, 2 clean EMG (02 : limbs and tongue, 05 : tongue). Just a multiplet after speaking. ALS?
No BUT....: By all means gear up for the August 2015 Ice Bucket Challenge that the ALS Foundation of America is going to hold again. But in your case tongue twitches with normal neurological exams and no abnormal EMG's cannot be ALS...not here...not in France...and not even on PLANET ALS....if such a planet existed. ...Read more

Had emg of left arm and right leg yesterday, showed no abnormalities. I been twitching for 4 years. Would emg have shown anything if I had bulbar als. The twitch is on the tip of tongue and happens after flexed or touched. Blood work, thyroid normal.?
Not bulbar ALS: If you had bulbar ALS, it would be obvious after 4 years. Many folks have these benign fasciculations. The best way I know to stop being preoccupied with trivial non-symptoms is to embrace high-level wellness. You're 28, young enough to be an Olympic champion. Probably Vitamin B: Take some vitamin b complex, in particular Folic Acid and niacin. Wait about 3 to 7 days. If symptoms resolve, it was a vitamin deficiency.If they don't resolve the rinse with benedryl for 3 min 3 x's a day. Show us picture pls: The tongue is known to have many variations with pigmenting, size, appearance, & not always due to disease. Tongue picture: It is tough to say what the cause is without seeing it first hand, however, a picture is said to be worth a thousand words. The picture appears like classical benign migratory glossitis or geographic tongue which can be symptomatic in many people burning, stinging. Red spots on tongue: May be inflammed taste buds. Doubt infection since they are painless and no other symptoms. You may have also accidentally burned them with hot coffee or tea. Salt water gargles - 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 4 oz warm water - gargle and spit out might help. Good luck ...Read more
