Bumps on the neck can be from a lot of different things. The most likely is a lymph node, or infection draining site. What to be worried about is if the bump is painful, continues to get bigger, causes problems swallowing or breathing, or starts draining fluid. It is probably best to have this seen by your doctor since it is getting bigger. See them now if your son seems ill.

Hard to say for sure: Without knowing some more history such as how long it's been there, is it tender, does it move easily, have you had any recent illness etc. It's hard to say with certainty. It most likely is a swollen reactive lymph node that will subside after a few days to weeks.
