Many causes: This could be seborrheic dermatitis, due to a specific type of yeast, or infection of the hair follicles (folliculitis). The hair thinning may or may not be related. Likely neuritis: Most likely a neuritis, nerve inflammation, causing this. It can be helped with topical doxepin cream and orally by tricyclic antidepressants like amitryptilline from your primary care doctor or dermatologist, if they confirm the diagnosis.
