Comments: The anatomy involves trigeminal nerve, but the cause may be complex. There is a sensory trigeminal neuropathy which could do this, but one might consider problems in jaw or mouth as a provocateur. Some intracranial situations should be excluded via MRI. A neurologist or a dentist could be a starting point. ...Read more
What causes sensation of numbness/tingling cheeks, lips, often side of neck as if, but not, hyperventilating & always accompanied by slight air-hunger?
Nerve issue: If the tingling is within the distribution of a cutaneous nerve then it's possible that that nerve is being pinched somewhere. The tingling of hyperventilation is due to changes in calcium in your blood so if the symptom is similar to hyperventilation then calcium levels should be checked. I don't know why the sensation of air hunger is associated with these symptoms in your case. ...Read more
