I suffer pain in the muscle below my left shoulder blade. It starts off as a burning pain and as it progresses it's like white hot tingling pain. ?

Nerve pain: Sounds like pain from "pinched nerve". Several causes of pain from pinched nerve; artheritis, herniated disc, narrowing of foramin (holes) that nerves leave spinal cord from. The burning type, hot pain is consistent with nerve pain. Questions to consider; worse with movement, deep breathing, fever or swelling in one or both legs? Does the pain radiate anywhere? Possibly: An emg/ncv test is not 100 percent sensitive for sciatica, so it could possibly be coming from the irritation of a nerve in the back causing symptoms in the leg ("sciatica"), but there are other potential causes as well. An MRI of the lumbar spine would show if there is any nerve impingement that correlates with your symptoms. Continue being seen for further work up. ...Read more

Typically not: Mri is the most sensitive test available to aid in the diagnosis of ms. While there are rare cases of MRI negative ms, the vast, vast, vast majority of patients with ms have MRI abnormalities. Having said that, given your symptoms it would be important to know if the cervical and thoracic spinal cord were imaged. If brain and spinal cord imaging negative then not likely to be ms. ...Read more
